What did I think of the book?

 ***Spoiler Alert(s)***

I also have to rate this book 5 stars out of 5 stars. This book is wonderful! Anne gets married and lives happily with Gilbert. She gets a little sad about her first(dead) daughter Joyce but then gives birth to a son named James. So she stays happy but never forgets Joyce. She meets a lot of new people and makes tons of new friends.

What did I think of the characters of the book?

Anne is an optimistic girl who likes to imagine. Anne talks straightforwardly about wanting, seeking, and building new friendships. She is stubborn and makes mistakes but sees the world as a positive place full of possibilities. She is funny, bright, and a regular chatterbox. She has grown older and wiser but has a little childish self left in her. She becomes a wife to Gilbert. She also becomes a mother. Gilbert Blythe is Anne’s husband and a father. He is a doctor that commutes to work. He and Anne live in a house that Anne calls the House of Dreams.

Joyce Blythe is Anne’s firstborn. She dies after a day. It was not said of how she died, but Gilbert had said that Jem will live because his lungs are healthy. This implies that Joyce’s death was caused by unhealthy lungs.  James Matthew Blythe(a.k.a. Jem) is Anne’s second child. These two children were the only children born in the House of Dreams. Marilla Cuthbert was here for Joyce’s birth and death.

James “Captain Jim” Boyd is a former sailor that takes care of a lighthouse. He loves Leslie Moore like a daughter. He dies with a smile on his face after reading a published book about his adventures. He is close friends with Anne and Gilbert. Leslie Moore is a quiet member of the town. She got married to an unpleasant man at a young age. Her husband, Dick, went to Cuba and came back with a crippling brain damage that reduced him to the capacity of a child. Forced to care for him for over a decade before the beginning of the novel, she has resigned herself to a dull and depressing life.  Until she met Owen Ford. After finding out that Dick was his cousin George and that Dick was dead, she later gets married to him at the end of the novel and leaves town.

Owen Ford is an author who rents Leslie Moore’s extra room for one summer. He writes a book about Captain Jim’s adventures and gets it published. He falls in love with Leslie and leaves town knowing that she will never love him. He comes back, gives the book to Captain Jim, gets married to Leslie, and leaves town. Miss Cornelia Bryant is Anne’s neighbor who despises men. She is outspoken and independent middle-aged. She has strong and deep-rotted opinions. She is also warm-hearted and takes care of children from poor families. She is an excellent cook, industrious sewer, and a skilled embroiderer. Sh later gets married to a man named Marshall Elliot.

What did I think of the art of the book?

This cover is simple and easy to know what it what. There is a little house surrounded by grass and bare trees. Anne is walking down this small platform made of wood. She is wearing a black skirt, a brown sweater, and a white shirt. She is carrying some books with her hair in braids. There is another house farther in the background. I think there are sheep behind Anne(all I know is that there is some type of animal behind her).

Would I like a sequel or does the sequel work?

There are sequels to this book and I’m reading the next book. A sequel would work because Anne is getting married and will raise children. This would be her last time teaching before she gets married to Gilbert. There are 3 more original sequels to this book. And by original, I mean, that L.M. Montgomery wrote these books. You can read the next three books, but they are mainly about Anne’s children’s lives.

What is the ideal reader age group for this book?

The ideal age group for this book would be 12 and up. There is mention of death of a baby which might be upsetting to young children. But some kids would be okay when reading this.
